Make marijuana never be illegal

With more and more technology, transportation, and communication all around the world, marijuana is not a strange or surprising word to people, especially teenagers any more. “Marijuana, like tobacco and alcohol, can be abused” (Marijuana Legalization Organization, 2007, para.3); for this reason, many countries want to prohibit this drug. I think we do not need to always use force to arrest people who sell or buy marijuana, but every year, government and related departments spend lots of money that is from the taxes paid by taxpayers to do this work. Like an articles said, “Taxpayers are forced to pay billions of dollars to persecute, prosecute, and incarcerate people for having marijuana” (Marijuana Legalization Organization, 2007, para. 2). I think the goal of taxes we paid is to improve our lives though government’s macro-control. We have to pay for that, and as the result, we want to use this money to get a harmonious society.
So, to improve the education of marijuana, perfect the health care, and use marijuana with its useful side are three main points that are why I agree that marijuana should become legalized
First, I agree that our taxes “could be used for other purposes such as education and health care” (Marijuana Legalization Organization, 2007, para. 2), instead of government using much of this money to direct it toward people who have marijuana. The most important way is the improvement of education. In my opinion, education is always better and cheaper than prohibition. People should get better education to really understand the effect of marijuana, and people can more easily accept and choose whether they will use marijuana. People who do not use marijuana can learn where or when marijuana can provide some benefits; people who use marijuana can learn what the bad effects of marijuana are, and then correct them instead of be afraid of the policeman’s arrest.
Second, I think the government should provide financial aid to improve and perfect health care. Only maintaining the prohibition or prohibition laws is not a good way to solve problems caused by marijuana. “Money spend on enforcement of marijuana laws is money wasted” (Benna, 2005, para. 7), and usually law enforcement can use that money “ much more productively to pursue murderers, rapists, thieves, or other more serious criminals” (Benna, 2005, para. 6). Marijuana can be abused, so I think these people cannot get good health care, and have to depend on marijuana; also they do not have an equal place among others. As a result of this, I think government not only should use money to create prohibitive laws, but also needs to improve the health care, and after it free to provide for people who abuse marijuana. The legalization of marijuana also can make people who want to give it up like to go to a hospital to treat. Because now, marijuana in many areas is illegal, people who abused marijuana are afraid to go for treatment, because, if the marijuana is legal; they can treat them without any fear, and they do not need to suffer from intolerance.
Third, marijuana is not only a kind of drug, but also a good medicine. The correct use of marijuana can heal many diseases. We must accept the medical value of marijuana. Many people use marijuana to heal themselves, such as “in 1978, a young cancer patient” (CNN Interactive, 1997, para.7) who won the legal marijuana to cure cancer. More and more people pay attention to marijuana’s medical value instead of only its drug characteristics. So, I think establishing marijuana legalization is necessary with many benefits in medicinal areas.
In conclusion, many areas have begun to support the legalization of marijuana, such as six West states in US. “80 percent polled think it’s OK to dispense marijuana for medical purposes” (Roche, 2002, par. 57). Many people become to allow marijuana, because it also has many good characteristics for people. Add the education and health care from government; I think marijuana will become legal in the future.

CESL

I have already been America 8 months; 7 of them I spent in CESL. Now, I will graduate from CESL in the near future. I hope to graduate, because I want to study in SIUC as soon as possible, but, I also feel sad to be leaving. So, I think I can leave some advice for CESL. I think we need to increase extracurricular work to improve our English skill and abilities in our spare time. We can study a lot, but we do not have enough chance or environment to use them. Going out of class, contacting the US crowd, and touching the US culture that should make English not only a language, but also a common communication tool; we can understand English, instead of only reciting it. I believe we can improve our English quickly. At that time, we can use all of the knowledge that we study in class to communicate and practice. That should be one of the best ways to examine our learning outcomes and improve our English, rather than quizzes or examinations.

Who are the homeless?
A large part of people are homeless in American society now. Parts of these people were “sent out from the hospitals” (Kozol, 1989, p. 450) because of society’s wrong decision. Older men and women, small children and unmarried mothers with children are as a large part of homeless people, especially in the urban areas. “It seems as though homelessness is almost identical to spouselessness” (Bidinotto, 1990, p.47); that makes their lives very difficult, such as the articles said ; “given that a working single mother must pay for day care and often finds it difficult to both hold down a good job and single-handedly take care of the children” (Bidinotto, 1990, p. 47).

What causes homelessness?
The group of homeless people are not a whole group, but can be divided into three groups. Many factors affect the group of homeless people, such as “economic recession, unemployment, inflation, decreasing availability of low-rent housing, and a low level of job skills” (Torrey, 1991, p.47); they do not have enough abilities to have a good life. These people usually can get the public’s sympathy to help them get out from being “down-on-my-luck” (Torrey, 1991, p. 35). In addition, many people abuse alcoholics and drugs, which makes them become homeless, and also lose the sympathy from public. But, society has to provide part of this kind of people help, in order to help them save money to quit drinking or smoking.

So, most of these people do not have enough abilities and skills to work for enough money, and also have many pressures from society, that cause them become homeless.

These people usually can get the public’s sympathy to help them get out from being “down-on-my-luck” (Torrey, 1991, p. 35). In addition, many people abuse alcoholics and drugs, they waste too much money on that instead of normal lives. They \become homeless, and also lose the sympathy from public. But, society has to provide part of this kind of people help, in order to help them save money to quit drinking or smoking, and then have normal lives.

Transportation

Now, there is more and more communication all around the world, and also people want to get to anywhere on the earth. So, the technological development of transportation has become fast and perfect. The improvement and popularization of airplane travel is the most technological breakthrough. People can arrive to many places fast, even though the destination is far away from your home. Also, you can feel very comfortable because of the advanced equipment. The train travel had a big technological improvement as well. People never feel train travel is a boring thing; technology makes trains run fast and construct railways to anywhere. So people can get to most places with short time. For normal lives, technologies on public transportation have constructed a very good transport network, and thus reduced the traffic problems and facilitated people’s trips. So, the technological development of transportation can make people’s lives better and better.

Network

With the development of technology in every area, there are many things around us that have become changed; some changes make us amazed, but some of them we do not realize. In my opinion, the development of the network is the biggest technological change right now. First of all is the transportation; people are usually familiar with writing letters in many areas, so that revise a good transportation system networks to operate. Technology improves the rate and speed of transportation that makes people get letters or other things as soon as possible. Second, telephone networks have improved and been perfected. People can have a good communication environment, and never worry about signal problems in most places. Third, I think Internet network is the most valuable and influential development in the 21st century. Maybe just several years ago, people who lived in different areas just talked to each other by letter or telephone, and they did not live far away from each other; it was also impossible for them to see each other. But now, the technology’s development makes it come true through Internet. People can make a normal communication even though they live in the opposite sides of the erath.

Plane Travel

Now, with the development of technology and information, travelling by an airplane has become a more and more common thing. Maybe some people do not know well about how to take airplane, or be afraid of airplane trip because almost airplanes fly above cloud during the trip. But for me, the airplane travel is really an amazing thing. First of all, I think a trip that takes airplane is the best way to get to destination, because the services on the airplane are really thoughtful and comfortable. Not only different kinds of food and drink on the airplanes, but also have many varieties of media entertainment on them, so travelers cannot feel tired and boring during the trip. Second, airplane can take you to be the fastest speed than any other vehicles, especially when airplane takes off and lands on the ground. From the other side, that also saving travelers’ time with the high-speed. Some people think take airplane to travel is very dangerous, but I do not agree with it. I think when the airplane fly to the highest place, also the period that make me feel amazed and surprised, such like a song sung “ I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky.” As these three reasons, if give me a choice to travel, I am sure I will choose an airplane.

Pay attention to public transportation

Pay attention to public transportation

In “Solution to transportation woes” (2008), by Moaz Yusof Ahmad, it explains how to solve the transportation problems and how to improve transportation operation in Malaysia. The Malaysian government wants to improve public transportation this year because it’s necessary and important to citizens. The government’s goal is that people use public transportation instead of private cars in a few years. First, the government wants some people to use public transportation, but people also raise many factors for public transportation’s operation at the same time. The public transportation now is a very incomprehensible problem that connects many factors. The CVLB (a part of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development) said the public transportation should become a business with benefits. So, maybe government should put public transportation as an economic factor in the future. But, the public transportation should be improved without bureaucracy. In addition, a railway, with many advantages, plays an important role in public transportation. Malaysia also uses a railway to connect its transportation network. Public transportation’s work is not the same as business; their goal is not to earn money; sometimes they also need government’s financial help. LRT (a mass-transit system) is the fast way to transport, but it is impossible to build if in every area. Now, there are still many problems in Malaysia’s public transportation system, so the author hopes these problems should be solved with a bus, which is easily realized and helps the development of the public transportation system in the future.
The development of science and technology affects the people’s transportation form. Private car does not seemed as high status in normal life; maybe sometimes it could be deemed as a burden, in that if brings the terrible traffic, the high-speed rise oil price and so many boring things. So, the public transportation gradually has become an important and necessary element in modern society.

I think the public transportation should get more benefits and subsidies from the government, even though its goal is not profit. So, that could be the first way to solve the public transportation problem, because the public transportation system could affect the whole society’s operation. A good public transportation operates can help relieve traffic pressure. As this result, people can get to work on time and easily plan the normal schedule. People will not waste too much time to tune up or gas up, also they will not be worried that they cannot find parking spaces. In addition, when face an emergency, invalids or wounded people could be sent quickly to hospital because the perfect public transportation system can avoid traffic jams’ occurrence. So, the improvement and perfection of public transportation will affect as well the whole society.

Second, I think there has been a new opinion proposed about environment protection for a few years. The public transportation can to some extent reduce the carbon dioxide’s exhaust caused by the fuel’s burning, because public transportation can reduce the use of many private cars. Although a private car cannot exhaust as much as waste gas as a bus, a car usually cannot have a passage in every seat, so that wastes a lot of space, but the operate of car also use the similar oil as the car run with full of people in every seat, but a bus can take people together. With this reason, the total waste gas discharge used by private cars is much more than that of buses or railways used, and some kinds of public transportation have begun to give up using oil and replacing it with electricity. So, for protecting environment, or for saving oil resource, public transportation can to some degree save space, then save the fuel used, thus reduces the environmental pollution.

The last reason which should be the biggest one is about oil. The second reason was about the fact that oil burning causes environmental pollution, but maybe some people do not care about it; but for oil, there is a very serious problem that makes people have to pay attention that is the high-speed rise of oil price. With the development of economies, more and more people have the ability to afford a car. But people who have cars usually pay attention to the oil price, and the high-speed rise of oil price right now may be the most terrible problem to them. In China, I know people always want to save much money for oil, and at this time, the developed public transportation system satisfies people and provides them a convenient transport network. So, that is the reason some people in China have begun to use bus, railway or other public transport networks instead of their cars.

In conclusion, the public transportation is not only a convenient vehicle for people, but also is an important and necessary element of the high-speed development in the modern society. A good public transportation system can to some extent control the traffic jam caused by larger population daily, reduce the environment pollution and also can steady the high-speed increase in oil price. So, from each side, government should pay attention to public transportation, thus improving and perfecting public transportation now is very important and necessary.
